The official Sift reaches Minecraft Java & Bedrock Edition in 2027, and the exact date is Not announced. Players who don’t want to wait have a second option: fan-made mods and add-ons that build their own version of the dimension now. Everything on this page is third-party work, not made by or associated with Mojang. Each project is its author’s interpretation, so its biomes, mobs, blocks and portal are not a preview of what Mojang will ship.

The Sift mods at a glance

ProjectEditionLoader and versionsHow you get in (per the project page)
Mielon’s The SiftJavaFabric, Forge, NeoForge; 26.3, 26.2, 1.21.1, 1.20.1Wake the Ancient City portal with a Note Block melody
The Sift Dimension | Add-OnBedrockAdd-on (beta)Clear the sculk from the Ancient City portal and light it with flint and steel, or use a command
The Swift - Fan-Made SiftJavaFabric only; 26.1 or 26.3Play five different note-block pitches near the Ancient City frame within 12 seconds
Moon Bears SiftJavaNeoForge; 26.1.2Craft a sift note, clear the sculk and light the Ancient City portal

Notice the pattern in the last column: every project routes you through the Ancient City frame. That is a shared fan idea, not an announcement. Mojang has not said how Java & Bedrock players will reach the Sift — see how to get to the Sift for what is and isn’t confirmed.

What each mod adds

Feature lists below are what each project page says about itself as of October 4, 2026. Authors update these projects often, so numbers can change.

Mielon’s The Sift (Java)

The broadest of the four, with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge builds across both current and older Java versions, and support for clients and dedicated servers. The author is upfront about what it is: the mod “isn’t an exact replica. It’s my interpretation of this dimension based on what we’ve seen in the trailers.”

  • World: 10 biomes, Siftslate as the main stone, and its own animated sky and weather (Self-described on the project page as of October 4, 2026).
  • Getting in: blow a Goat Horn at the center of an Ancient City; a Singer appears and awakens the Sonorous Deepslate. Place Note Blocks on it — they play 8 Sift notes instead of the usual sounds — and play the melody back to open the frame.
  • Mobs: Singer, Echo Golem, Blub, Sifter and Dark Sniffer.
  • Other additions: Ichor, temporary Sift Rifts, Siftite gear and Charoite.

Get it from Modrinth or CurseForge.

The Sift Dimension | Add-On (Bedrock)

The Bedrock option here. Its author, trotamundos872, says it aims to recreate the experience and mechanics of the dimension, and labels it a beta. To get in, clear the sculk from the Ancient City portal and light it with flint and steel; the page also offers a /the_sift:travel command that takes you straight there. It lists a Meadow biome, a mob called the Seedling and more than 15 new blocks (Self-described on the project page as of October 4, 2026).

Get it from CurseForge or MCPEDL.

The Swift - Fan-Made Sift (Java)

A Fabric-only mod by CreativeMode, published as “The Swift.” Its page calls it fan-made, not an official Minecraft product and not associated with Mojang or Microsoft. It lists six landscapes and 15 creatures, three of them bosses (Self-described on the project page as of October 4, 2026). The portal opens when you play five different note-block pitches near an Ancient City frame within 12 seconds.

One caution: several of its landscape names, such as Meadows, Carapace and Echo Den, are borrowed from names in the Sift announcement and in community records of Dungeons II. Those are the mod author’s choices. They say nothing about what Mojang’s Meadows or Carapace will contain — officially, both are still just names. Get it from CurseForge.

Moon Bears Sift (Java)

A NeoForge mod for 26.1.2 by MoonBear_Modding. You craft a Note Block into a sift note, break the sculk inside the Ancient City frame and light the portal. The page lists 8 new mobs and 1 boss (Self-described on the project page as of October 4, 2026); earlier listings showed a smaller mob count, so expect that number to keep moving. Get it from CurseForge.

Official Sift vs. what the mods add

Use this table to separate Mojang’s announcement from fan design. Anything in the right-hand column exists only in that mod.

TopicWhat Mojang has announcedWhat the mods do
AvailabilityPlayable in Dungeons II since September 29, 2026; Java & Bedrock in 2027, exact date Not announcedPlayable now, in each mod’s own form
BiomesMeadows and Carapace are named; Mojang says there are more, kept secretEach mod invents its own set; Mielon’s lists 10 biomes, the Bedrock add-on lists a Meadow biome
MobsNew mobs, both companions and threats; some inhabitants are friendly. Count Not announcedMod-specific rosters, such as Mielon’s Singer, Blub and Dark Sniffer, or the add-on’s Seedling
BlocksHazardous new blocks that change how you explore; details Not announcedSiftslate, Sonorous Deepslate, “15+ new blocks” and other mod-made blocks
Way inJava & Bedrock: Not announced. Dungeons II: “step through the rift”Ancient City frame, opened with Note Blocks or flint and steel depending on the mod
BossesNot announcedSome mods add bosses; their names are the authors’ choices

Sift blocks: official vs. modded

If you searched for Sift blocks, most of what you’ll find right now comes from mods. Officially, Mojang has said only that the Sift brings hazardous new blocks that will change how you approach exploration. Their names, behavior and recipes are Not announced.

The mods fill that gap with their own designs. Mielon’s The Sift builds its world from Siftslate and uses Sonorous Deepslate for its portal, and adds Ichor as a fluid. The Bedrock add-on lists more than 15 new blocks. Community records of Dungeons II separately describe the Sift’s environment as red-orange stone, green vegetation, ichor and sculk — community records, not officially confirmed — but no mod block should be read as the official version of any of them.

Which one should you pick?

  • You play Bedrock: The Sift Dimension | Add-On is the Bedrock project on this list.
  • You play Java on an older version, or use Forge: Mielon’s The Sift covers 1.20.1 and 1.21.1 and all three major loaders.
  • You run Fabric on 26.1 or 26.3: The Swift targets exactly that setup and leans on bosses and named landscapes. Check Mielon’s version list on its project page too.
  • You run NeoForge on 26.1.2: Moon Bears Sift targets that setup.
  • You want the real thing: no mod is that. The only official Sift today is in Minecraft Dungeons II — see the Sift in Dungeons II.

Whichever you choose, download from the project pages linked above rather than from re-upload sites, and back up your world before adding a new dimension to it.
